Dream on .. :)

Over the years, there happen many a change in an individual or at least that is the case with me, and I am sure most of my friends reading this would acknowledge it. Of the many that take place, one very subtle change that happens in most of us is how we stop dreaming.

I had much better ideas of what I wanted to do as a kid as compared to what I have now. 2 years down the line and I can only imagine. A hectic experience once at the bank making me feel like becoming a banker and being at the centre of all the chaos .. a loving teacher making me feel like being a teacher .. the fun of travel making me dream of being an adventurer. Everything was clear and everything possible ... But now, what has happened to me? My life has become so pathetically & monotonically aimless. We have all become these moronic beings, too afraid to follow our dreams & most of us are busy moving ahead with the band-wagon as they say. Some may argue that the stakes are too high for us & the fear of risking all that we ever accomplished too overwhelming (in my case, for eg., getting into the IITs). Although right to a certain extent, this reasoning I believe has got more to it.

How many of us here can claim to be truly aware of their personal calling? We don't all have the courage to confront our own dreams. Why? There are 2 reasons as I see it.

First, we are told from childhood onwards that everything we want to do is impossible. We grow up with this idea & as the years accumulate, so does the layers of prejudice, fear and guilt. There comes a time when our dreams are so deeply buried in our soul so as to be invisible. But they are still there. In fact as a close friend of mine looks at reality, "An individual's perception of life, unfortunately twisted so horrifically by this world that anyone having an unconventional opinion is generally acknowledged as crazy", pretty much sums up my feelings here.

Secondly, Love. Even if we know what to do, we are afraid of hurting those around us by abandoning everything in order to pursue our dreams. What we do not realise is that love never keeps us from pursuing our dream. If we abandon the pursuit it is because it is not true love.

We all seem to be loosing the ability to choose our own destiny. After a certain point in our lives, I believe if we carry on this way, we will loose control of what would be happening to our us.

As optimistic as I always am ( ;) ), I don't fail to notice that these mysterious forces which seem to be tearing our dreams apart, are perhaps preparing our will and our soul to make us worthy of achieving our dreams. May we all accomplish the legend we all set our foot on this earth for!! Happy Dreaming :)

Dude, I thing you wanted to write more but you havent. So do put it down. Overall, I agree to a good extent(especially the IITian risk).

surprising to see a banker to be is putting down his thoughts. Wanna do a Chetan Bhagat ? :P

nice one.. but i think there is more to it than just the basic environment.. which includes pessimism etc.. with referance to the quote about wanting to be something, thing is, as we grow, we learn to see things more openly.. for example, the once loving teacher, now looks like a loving teacher who has to keep a class of 30 odd students quiet, has to correct 30 odd papers.. make sure those who dont do well improve over time.. so we learn to observe more aspects attached to everything.. thereby, towards the end, the option which we see ourselves to cope up with best, comes out to be our objective for the future.. also, interest is another aspect which is to be taken into account.. big big example is insti junta appearing for cat and goin on for finance jobs.. thing is, when ur interests change, u change along with it.. in an environment such as ours today, there are so many aspects which change our interests drastically without us even realising it.. thereby, i think it is not really a big deal that we dont dream so big, because there is a possibility of a change.. nevertheless, i agree that it is the big dreams that keep one driven as long as one is attached to a field.. till such time one's interests change.. great going! :)

As a matter of fact Anmol, I penned it down before I just typed that in here at the cafe :P and as far as the inspiration is concerned, its just the way I am feeling. It is my quest to find my own dreams come true .. this is just a way of starting to make my mind comfortable with this idea :)

Yeah Raghav ( Iyengar :P ) .. I wanted to write a lot more .. I have a lot of thoughts in my mind on this .. Just that I love keeping some of them to myself, you know all that RG :P :)

What I question here is not our abitility to dream big Kaushik :) All that I wonder is how we have forgotten to dream itself. Let me tell you this .. on your death bed, you woud'nt wish that you spent more time in your office working for someone you would'nt have even met. You would'nt wish you earned a few more millions in your life. All you will take from here is memories that made you happy.
Paradoxically, it might even be earning millions all your life, and even more paradoxically it might just be seeing batches of 30 students grow big and actually a few of them come and stand beside you while you took your last breaths :)

ONE MORE BAD FACT you used in your argument .. when we take the CAT exam, its not because our interests change, its because we don't like enggineering. And when we take it, we take it just to go with the band wagon .. We might as well not like it :) .. Its all luck if you actually end up liking it. Life will get us a complete cirle back, after we complete this degree and we will just go down the path that everyone else here is taking, without taking any cues. And this will further bury all our dreams deep down our souls. Here lies the crux of my argument :)

Let me again make it very clear, I have nothing to hold against this beautiful world that we are living in. It all lies in how you look at things. And thats just what has changed in my case :)

i truly agree that the inner calling is important. i did listen 2 it, and gave up on science and today am happy doin wat i'm doing. just felt that, it all lies upon how u look at the world and not how th world looks at you. hey do also visit my blog, i'm a very shallow writer btw...

Fart Maxxx. This is totally a piece of shit . Kaun chutiya aise kehta hai. pseud maarne ki bhi had hoti hai.

Seriously man!!! What arbit fart and shag. When I was a child, I wanted to be a exorcist. But that's not something I'd wanna do in future. Don't be so sentimental and emotional about your true calling or whatever shit u call it. There is no such thing as a true calling. It was just made up by jobless losers or under-paid over-worked dim-witted numskulls like who know nothing other than cribbing about life in general. There is a very good reason why people say that one should live in the present and crib about the past or beat one's head about the future. So my advice to u would be just three simple words - GET A LIFE.

i think you are very right shounak. This bastard is totally a self-centered person. Basically an asshole. Jus read his remarks. Totally TNR. I think he should be sentenced for such arbit fart.

Shounak said...

Ya da!!! Completely agree with you. Lets go to his room and show him a big T from us. He should be made to eat his Tyson's shit (FYI, its the name of his dog). I mean who the fuck comes to IIT and complains about life. The hallowed portals of IIT are such that those who are bestowed upon it should be grateful and not misgiving or indifferent least of all antagonizing. Maxp you inconsiderate big-headed prat, there are millions out there who would give up their arm or leg to get an IIT education and here you are being unappreciative and condescending.

Apoorv said...

yaar you shudn't have written about Tyson. Actually Maxp is very sentimental abt her. You know he moved out of hyderabad because he had a affair with the girl next door who had a dog called MAX. Now since MAXP was in a very intimate relationship with her and as he claims, is also a very dignified person, so he didnt wanted her dog to fuck his dog. Such a dog he is , for his desires he fucked the lives of two dogs who were dogly in love with each other. :P

Shounak said...

"Dogly in love"....LOL. What da Maxp. Tune apne kutte ki ma chod di :P
